The Rhiwbina tour is scheduled for 19th and 20th June as per the fixture list. Please try to keep the weekend free. We hope a lot of us will stay over in Bradford on Avon on Friday 19th after a post-match meal in the village. It was brilliant fun last year – the more the merrier. Tour chairman Barny Evans will be in touch shortly with more details.

Rhiwbina’s season is up and running with our first win of 2009. And it was a good one. We beat BA Dragons in the 1st round of the Cup by 42 runs.  A full match report and scorecard is now online. Dan Clayton also shot a short video of some agricultural batting while umpiring at square-leg. It’s on our video stream on the right hand side of this page.  Look forward to seeing you all soon now that the weather is on the up.  Come on the Pines!

Willows League – Thursday 7th May 2009

Expectations were running high ahead of the curtain-raiser to the 2009 season. Some (new additions Dave, Andrew and Grant) were looking forward to their debut for the illustrious Mighty Pines. Established players were hoping to pick up where they left off at the end of 2008. Dai James was looking forward to giving the opposition nightmares with his wicket celebrations and club captain Ash was looking forward to taking his seat in the directors box (alongside JD) to watch the ever-expanding squad of Pines work their magic on a team that finished last season 3 places below us in the league. read full report here

Directions to St Fagans Cricket Club

May 12, 2009
by ashleighcrowter

The cricket ground is just outside the village of St Fagans on the same road as the Plymouth Arms Pub. Click here for map and directions from the Gabalfa interchange/A48. In five easy steps:

  • From Gabalfa roundabout, head along A48 past UWIC and Llandaff Cathedral School on your right, across Cardiff Road crossroads/lights and the next lights too. Stay in right hand lane.
  • At next lights, just before railway bridge, turn right (signposted Fairwater and Ski Centre I think).
  • Go straight on on that road for a few miles through Fairwater and into St Fagans.
  • Just before the road goes downhill to the left, and before you get to the museum, turn right.
  • Pass Plymouth Arms on your right, head out of village and cricket club is immediately on your left.

Please try to be at the ground before 6pm. Give me a call if you are having problems finding it.

Damp, Defeated but Unbowed

May 8, 2009
by ashleighcrowter

We lost our first match in the Willows League last night to Cardiff Bay Barbarians. They made 107 in 18 overs – we fell about 40 runs short in almost constant drizzle. Hey ho. But a lot of lads chipped in well, spending useful time in the middle or turning their arm over. Thanks to everyone who played or supported. A full match report and scores will follow here shortly.
